Good morning everybody. My name is Sandy Beach and I'm an alcoholic. How are you all doing? It's a pleasure to be here this morning and I want to thank the committee for inviting me over. And my sobriety date is December 7th, 1964 and my home group is the universe famous Saturday Night Fever Group here in Tampa, Florida. And we invite you to come every Saturday at seven o'clock and then go right on over to the world famous Monday night meeting in St. Pete. Anyway I was supposed to speak on Monday and I had a Monday morning talk ready. And Monday morning talks are just jokes. You know what I mean? It's funny stories and drinking stories and all of that. And the Sunday morning talk is God as I understand him. So you can see there's a big difference between the two talks. And I had all the notes for the Monday talk ready and I can't use those so I'm going to have to make up a bunch of stuff about the Sunday morning things. If I were to talk about God as I understand him, I would have to start out by talking about God as I misunderstood him. And I think all of us had that. You know when they talk about old ideas availed us nothing, a lot of them had to do with a higher power. And we had all kinds of these bizarre ideas. And I was brought up in the Catholic Church and I remember studying the little catechism and one of the questions was, where is God? And I remember going, well that's a good question because I've never seen him anywhere. And the answer was, everywhere. Now when you're about seven, that's not a helpful answer. You know because I'm going everywhere. So I'm looking in the closet and I'm looking in the backyard and I'm looking all around and it seemed like, what a bizarre answer. It was not very helpful. Now my sister and I, my sister now has 26 years in AA, and he and I attended the same church. And what he saw was the most wonderful, loving, happy, comforting place in the world. And what I saw was the most scary, intimidating, frightening place I've ever been in. I would be on the edge of a nervous breakdown every Sunday morning…
