Mike Fitzpatrick
Founder, President & Archivist — Recovery Speakers
For more than twenty years, Mike Fitzpatrick has been on a mission to preserve one of the most important collections of recovery history in the world.
What began as a desire to learn more about the pioneers of recovery became a lifelong passion. As Mike listened to old recordings, studied rare documents, and met the people who helped shape the recovery movement, he realized that these voices and stories needed to be preserved for future generations.
That realization led to the creation of Recovery Speakers. Over the last two decades, Mike has traveled, researched, interviewed old-timers, collected recordings, preserved fragile media, and rescued countless hours of recovery history that might otherwise have been lost forever. What started as a personal project has grown into one of the largest and most respected recovery archives in the world.
Today, the Recovery Speakers archive contains thousands of recordings representing decades of experience, strength, and hope. The collection has become a resource for people seeking recovery, historians, authors, researchers, and filmmakers.
Materials preserved through Recovery Speakers have contributed to documentary and historical projects, including the acclaimed Bill W. documentary and the recent film Bill W. Conscious Contact, which explores the spiritual journey of Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill Wilson.
Mike has also shared recovery history through presentations, workshops, conventions, and conferences across the United States, helping audiences connect with the pioneers and stories that shaped the movement.
“When you transfer the obsession from self to that of service to others is when you get up, stand up, and stay up.”
— Mike Fitzpatrick · Founder, President & Archivist

The vision for Recovery Speakers extends beyond preservation. The goal is to create the world’s most accessible, engaging, and community-driven recovery history platform — one where anyone can explore the voices, lessons, and stories that continue to transform lives.
By combining technology, community participation, and historical preservation, Recovery Speakers aims to ensure that these voices are never lost.
“Recovery history is more than a collection of recordings. It is a collection of lives changed, lessons learned, and hope shared. Those stories deserve to be heard.”
— Mike Fitzpatrick, Founder & President
