Volume

Published by General Service Office of A.A., P. 0. Box 459, Grand Central Station, New York 17

March 1961

305 E. 45 STREET, NEW YORK CITY, just a stone’s throw from the United Nations building, is the new home of AA’s General Service Office and The AA Grapevine. We occupy the entire 18th floor. AA members, their families and friends, are cordially invited to come see us any day, Monday through Friday. A description of GSO services is available for anyone who would like to have it. Let us know and we’ll gladly send you a copy.

NEW PUBLIC INFORMATION MATERIAL — Now available are two new kits: BACKGROUND EDITORIAL MATERIAL, and BACKGROUND RADIO-TV MATERIAL. These are for AA groups and committees to be used in their contacts with newspaper editors and/or TV and radio station managers when these people have asked the groups to cooperate in public service programs featuring AA.

FOR ALCOHOLICS IN PRISON GSO is pleased to announce the new pamphlet, A MEMO TO AN INMATE WHO MAY BE AN ALCOHOLIC. The pamphlet is based on the personal stories of AAs in prisons and is designed to help Institutional Committees and groups in prisons carry the AA message to other inmates. The need for such a pamphlet became known several years ago when GSO made a survey of AA groups in prisons. It was discussed at the General Service Conference by the Literature Committees of both the Conference and the General Service Board. Ex-inmates and members of AA groups in prisons contributed material from their own experience. We are grateful for comments from Clinton Duffy, the first warden to welcome AA into prison and now head of the California Adult Authority, from Warden Alfred F. Dowd, Indiana State Prison, Michigan City, Indiana, and from Kenyon J. Scudder, Field Service Director of the Osborne Association, Balboa Island, California. THE NEW INMATE PAMPHLET AND PUBLIC INFORMATION KITS ARE LISTED ON THE ORDER FORM MAILED WITH THIS BULLETIN.

AUSTRALIAN SERVICE CONFERENCE The second All-Australian AA Convention will meet in Sydney this Easter. The first convention was held at Melbourne in January 1959, when resolutions were passed that brought the Australian Service Conference into being. All States have now endorsed the establishment of A. S. C. and have appointed representatives. A. S. C. will hold a nation-wide convention every other year. Its objectives: to pool Australian resources for AA literature; to foster public relations activities at the national level; to help new Australian members; to take up other matters that may be submitted by the States. Despite the difficulties attending establishment of any new body, the Conference has made real progress and the Easter Convention will be a big step forward, (From THE REVIVER, published monthly by the AA Central Service Office in Sydney.)
