Application for Membership

Alcoholics Anonymous By May 1945, 26 members and their wives were meeting at Dave’s flat on Victoria Street in Westmount. The members met twice a week. lt was standing room only.

ln June 1945, the first meeting room was rented at the Montreal Forum. The room was the Board Room of the Red Feather Agency (now the United Way) for a fee of 10$ a month.

Drunks and card games seem mix and soon all night card games were occurring and this led to the Group being shown the door.

AImost immediately members started slipping and it soon resulted in the membership being reduced by half.

ln an attempt to try to control the drinking of those who had slipped, the Application for Membership was instituted.

At this period in history, the Traditions were just starting to be explored.
