I think the Brown Palace has done a real fine job on helping us put this convention on. Don’t you all think so? And the committee is very grateful to all the speakers that have helped us put this on. They’re a real wonderful, I think. Let’s give them a hand. Can everybody hear this pretty well? Yeah. Good. You know, these things, uh, that we’re in the middle of right now, having all such a wonderful time, don’t just happen. And this has been the work of a group of committee people who have done, I think, a wonderful job. And I’d like for all of them to stand at this time. Would the committee of the convention stand up, please? Yeah. Tomorrow morning, we’re going to have a friendship breakfast in this room that we’re gathered in tonight. It will be at nine o’clock in this end of the room, the east end. Tonight, as you all know, at ten, we’re going to have a dance. Now, we have, uh, a wonderful speaker in just a few minutes.
It’s going to be the frosting on the cake of this wonderful meal we’ve had. And so, without any further announcements, because I know that, uh, you’ve seen me up here making announcements and, uh, are interested in getting into the main part of this program that we’re gathered here for. Tonight, our chairman, we have been unable to locate him, but we do have- Now, that, uh, that wasn’t really a funny. It’s serious. We have, um, a fella here that knows our speaker very well, and he has so graciously consented to fill in as a chairman for tonight’s program. So at this time, I’d like to present to you Harold W. from Midland. Harold? Thank you, George. This substituting is kind of the story of my life. However, I would like to share with you just a moment an experience of mine in AA about being chairman, and I thought of it due to the disappearance of the chairman tonight. I had been sober in AA thirty days, and my group made me chairman of a Sunday afternoon meeting.
I went to work on this on Wednesday. And I lined up what– the speakers. First, my minister, who was extremely happy that I had joined AA, my sponsor, and a friend from over at Odessa. I had this all lined up. It was thirty days of sobriety, and I knew that they were gonna dedicate their time speaking, uh, about my being sober for thirty days. I got drunk on Saturday and didn’t show up for two weeks. My name is Harold Wilson, and I am an alcoholic. Hi, Harold. And because of God’s grace and this program, and by trying to practice its principles in all of my affairs, I haven’t found it necessary to drink since April twenty-seventh, nineteen sixty. The only thing that would give me more pleasure than introducing this fella is introducing myself to speak to you. I’ve known our speaker, I think the first time I heard him, he had been sober about sixteen or seventeen months.
