At 10:30 in the morning, I have barely started giving Marceline her instructions for the day. And here I find myself all gurgled up- .. listening to that beautiful and well-received acclaim. Says, “No profanity, please,” and what in the hell do you all think I was gonna say? All I can tell you is Clancy is in real trouble. Oh, he’s in bad trouble. Boy howdy, it is good to be here. It really is. Uh, I have a special spot in my heart for the Suburban Group of Alcoholics Anonymous of Austin, Texas, for more reasons than just one. One of these several reasons I experienced last night again when I met some very old and dear friends as I, Marceline and I came in the door last night.

And, uh, you know, I believe it’s a little bit different, maybe not totally different in our fellowship, but when, uh, we make those kind of friendships, and then maybe many years go by, and bingo, we cross tracks again, you know, it’s if our separation was of such short duration that it really didn’t count, and we’re instantly caught up into a new love, not a new one, but, uh, the same one, but a new experience with an old friend. That’s one of the reasons that I’m grateful to be here today and one of the pleasant memories I have about this group. Another is about, uh, 17 or 18, about 18 years ago, the people in Midland, some of the AAs in Midland decided they wanted a nice clubhouse, when they had no conception or idea about how to go about doing it, getting one. And we wrote general service headquarters and asked them how we might wind up renting or, uh, however, whatever method of having clubhouse facilities that, that were nicer than the ones that we had been experiencing.

And, uh, we got letters back from general service with packets of literature and about how to go about doing it, and that didn’t seem to solve our problem. And we heard about the Suburban Group here at Austin and what they had done. This club was.. How old is this clubhouse? 20 years old? 13. Where’s Cecil? He’s the only one- 13. This clubhouse is 13 years old? Must have had a lot of drunk then. Well, in, in, in any, uh- They came to you, and now you’re here. Now, you came to them. Hey, that’s right. Y’all came to me. With all the modesty- .. that I can muster- .. you have us to thank for your clubhouse. You know, I guess about the period of time that y’all built this clubhouse, if I’d have been making an AA talk and said that, I’d have poured gasoline on myself, struck a match, and dived off the podium. And at 10:30 in the morning, I could care less. Yeah. Well- Now, some of you are going through an act, and it really isn’t that funny.
