============================================================
Good afternoon, friends and fellow alcoholics. I am an alcoholic. The name is only incidental. It is Rudy, and I'm certainly happy to be the emcee for your first afternoon session, the AA sessions, rather. This session will not be opened with the usual quiet time. We ask that no pictures be taken, please. There may be some in attendance here this afternoon, including our friends of the press, radio, and the like, who are not familiar with our tradition of personal anonymity at the public level.
If so, we respectfully ask that no AA speaker, or indeed any AA member, be identified by full name in published or broadcast reports of this meeting. The assurance of anonymity is essential in our effort to help other problem drinkers who may wish to share our recovery program with us, and our tradition of anonymity reminds us that AA principles come before personalities.
