============================================================
Hi Bill, this is Joe M. again, talk a little bit about these past, past uh, tape here, got a little music in the background, I don't know whether you'll hear it or not, I usually do this when I'm making these small shorty tapes, uh, this Nick K. talked about 40 minutes, Beth K., she only talked about 25 minutes, Glen C. talked 55 minutes, and then this singing here is uh, a special program of uh, singing, they call themselves the Edge of Town, I'll have to look in the program here, uh, the Edge of Town chapter of the Sweet Adelines, they sing something like a barbershop quartet, and they entertain the Saturday evening for 20 minutes, just before the Saturday night session started, I uh, bet you wonder about the change I made here, well that was that uh, I was gonna put you on one of the speakers of the Saturday night session, but instead of breaking them up, I give you that uh, Sunday morning session, at panel 4, acceptance, and the other guest speaker that they had from Barrington, Illinois, her name incidentally, was uh, Katie W., so uh, now, you've got side 1, track 1, side 2, track 4, at the end of this tape, I will switch my machine to record on the other track of side 1, I don't know whether you have any experience with quarter track recordings or not, but uh, all you do in listening to it, put it on your stereo machine, and uh, listen to one track at a time, and put the volume down to 0 on the other track, and vice versa, uh, first listen to one track, with the volume from your recorder, and the amplifier volume down, and then when you get to the, to the same side, and wanna hear the other track, you put the volume up in your uh, external amplifier, and the volume down on your recorder, although I don't know whether you have a special cord that you attach from your machine to your amplifier, I believe you do, or uh, incidentally, I believe you've got your speakers built right into that [recorder brand unclear], there so you won't have no trouble at all, you just turn one track on, the other off, however, if you do have any trouble in listening to this here, send it back, and I'll erase a couple, uh, tracks, re-record it for you on 2 track, but I don't think you should have any trouble, incidentally, I uh, ran across a list of uh, speakers that I have, it is an old list, got about, I don't know how many speakers on here, but you can look it over, and uh, I have uh, quite a few beside that, that are not listed here, uh, if uh, you couldn't anyway make me up a list of what you've got, same way, that way we'll be able to know what we have, and I will get to work, and uh, try to complete this list, and send it on to you, or let you know one way or the other what I have, uh, I will try to finish this up for you, today, today is Thursday, June the 9th, uh, it's about 12 o'clock, I'll uh, try to finish it up and put it in the mail for you, and you should get an early part next week,
[00:05:01]
however, if I, something comes up and I'm unable to complete this, I will have it in the mail definitely tomorrow, I'm gonna try to change this music, see if we get some, something good for the balance of this tape here, when I usually do this, I, more or less, put on a recording, and that way I know that there won't be no interference, this is Ava Gabor in Hollywood, I love a lovely lawn, some pretty good speakers here, got some tapes from this 55, uh, conference, Sam Shoemaker, and uh, other sessions with Bernard Smith, and Medical Profession, some doctors that talked, oh yes, Dr. W. W. Bauer, Dr. Earl M., I believe it is, and uh, I got quite a few that you may have or you may not have, I've got a bunch of tapes that are recorded from around that, uh, Hammond, Gary, Indiana area, this Nick K. comes from there, I have a tape by him where he talks an hour and 20 minutes, I believe I told you before, and uh, I have, uh, speakers of different people who work in these different drying out, uh, places, and they more or less talk on how they try to, uh, help the suffering alcoholic, I have, uh, talks by, uh, Holly M. or Holly M., she's listed in there, Warren C., he's, uh, a guy on a program, came on about the time Clarence S. did, I think he may have been sponsored by Clarence S., and, uh, Merle A., he's a law enforcement, uh, he's with, uh, the law enforcement in some way, he talked at this Keeley Institute Roundup in Dwight, Illinois, also we have, uh, our Fellowship Club in Chicago, which is run by Joe T. and a few other people, and he makes good talk, I don't know if you've ever heard of him, uh, I've got the 16th Anniversary Blackstone Retreat, where, uh, Marie W. talked there, Bob W., Dr. John M., and Glenn P., I don't know if you have that, then, uh, I have some local speakers here, some of these local speakers are pretty good too, they are not known, but, uh, they make a pretty good talk, I've got Jack K. from Nashville, Tennessee, he's a newspaper cartoonist, Bonnie P., author from, uh, Hell to Here, she's down in, uh, uh, Mobile, Alabama, Max B. from Houston, Texas, Cal M. from the New York area, now he lives in Chicago, I'm gonna shut this music off here, get something else, it's not too good, oh, there it is, it wasn't on the station, I've got a very good talk here by Joe M. from the Bronx, New York area, he's the first guy to sober up in the institutions, and, uh, Chuck C., Frank L. talking at the Anniversary in Akron, and I've got a Dan A. from the Hazelden Foundation up in, uh, Minnesota, incidentally, I just got a copy of a talk by Lynn C., he's the executive director of this Hazelden Foundation, I don't know if you've ever heard of the place or of him,
[00:10:15]
but, uh, well, you name it, if I haven't got it, I'll try to get it from someone, I've got a lot of tapes here that some I didn't even hear myself, you've probably heard of Bob F., I've got Judge Clyde D. from Toledo, Cornelius V. from Brooklyn, he makes a very good talk, and, uh, I don't know if you've ever heard of Eddie F., who started the groups down in Central America and South America there, he, uh, has passed away, but he, in his talk here, he tells of how he went about and started these groups there, I've got a guy by the name of Dave M. from Wilmington, Delaware, and Joe P. from Highland, Indiana, and, uh, we've got Selden Bacon, who talked at, uh, one of the conferences here, and, uh, this tape is running out, I will try to get reorganized and talk of a little more tapes on this other side.
On this next side will be side one, track three, it will be the balance of the conference, it will be the Saturday night session, and the concluding Sunday afternoon session, and, uh, uh, I think it should come out, but one thing, in recording for a track like this here, you more or less have to be sure that your heads are in line, if they are out of line just one fraction of an inch, you will get this other track in there, and when that comes in, you will get two tracks at the same time.
So, uh, I know this machine is good, and it's recorded from another four tracks, so I don't think you should have any trouble in listening to it, or making copies of it if you desire to. So, uh, I will go right in and start this Saturday night session on this other track, and, uh, it will be followed by the Sunday afternoon session with Walter O., and I'll talk a little more at the end of that, I should have about a half hour to talk there at least, because these two sessions will be approximately about three and a half hours, and, uh, I'll talk a little more on the other side, and maybe, uh, think of something else of interest to say.
So, goodbye for now, and, uh, see you again, or you'll hear me again at the end of this, uh, next Side 1 Track 3. Bye for now.
