============================================================

Hi Bill, this is Joe M. again, well, there you have it, I have between 10 and 11 hours of this 6th Chicago Intergroup Conference, I only hope that you could play that on that [recorder name unclear] machine, I don't see why not, but if you have trouble let me know and I'll write a letter in the box in case you don't get to hear this, kind of lost for words, this conference here was one of the hardest that I've ever had to record because of the different motions the speakers went through when they were talking, take this Nick K., he was hugging the mic, right on top of the mic there and it was very difficult to record him, and Glenn C. was backing away from the mic about 5 feet and coming forward, I had to constantly adjust my volume up and down so you wouldn't get that fadingness in his talk there, and Walter O. was another one that was talking right into that microphone there, for some reason or other these Sunday sessions didn't come out as good as the Saturday sessions, I don't know whether it was due to some of the equipment I was using or what, but they did come out as good as, could have been a little better but I don't know what the cause was, I'll have to really go in and check my equipment and see if that was the cause of it, I usually don't record at too many of these big functions, the Chicago conference is the only thing, maybe 2 or 3 banquets during the year, or this [anniversary name unclear] I do like to get out there, that's in Dwight, Illinois, they have some pretty good speakers out there, it's an all day affair, they have BBQ chicken out there, and you get quite a crowd there, 500-600 people under a big tent, I've got a recording of Sister Ignatia when she was recorded on a radio station, it's not too long but I think I'll put that on after this Dr. Bob, on this last side of the tape which will be side 2 and track 2.

What I would like for you to do in case you do want to make up another tape like this for exchange, make me up a tape such as this loaded with the Toronto tapes, on side 1, I believe, just a minute, I have to change the radio here to get the music on here, on side 1 I believe I gave you the list of the tapes that I have from the general world conference at Toronto,

[00:05:05]

but I will enclose a list so you can keep track of the ones that I have and that you sent me, also with that list will be that list of speakers that I mentioned on the other track that you can look over and see which ones you want. I now have my book that's listed from A to Z and I'll try to go through some of these talks that are known speakers that have talked here that I had exchanged tapes with and tell you a little something about them.

John A. from New York made a very nice talk here. He was here to replace someone that couldn't make it at one of our intergroup conferences. Suzanne A., she talked at one of our intergroup conferences and she made a very good talk. I believe you have Ellen B. from New York area and then I have Dr. Leslie A. who talked at the Akron Breakfast. His talk was kind of dry but some people did enjoy it and we have this Merle A. that I mentioned. He's some law enforcement officer of some sort and he talked at this Keeley anniversary.

Reverend John A., he made a pretty nice talk. I forgot exactly where. Some place, I believe it might have been Nashville or something. I'm going to skip over some of these that are on the list enclosed in the box. Dr. William B., Dr. Nelson B., I don't have too good of a talk of him. Dick B., I have very good talk of him but not too clear. He talked at our first Chicago intergroup conference. I have various ones of Jack B. Ken B., I don't know if you ever heard of him. He's that blind fella that passed away a few years ago. I have a talk by him made in 1960.

Also a talk by his wife, Olive B. I've got one by Tom B. He's one of the first few persons or the first to come on the program. He tells of the squabbles they had as they were writing the big book. Hazel B. is up from down your way there. Evelyn B., I don't know where she's from. Howard B., he passed away about two years ago. He made a very good talk in the Ohio conference. I have this Dr. Gordon B.

I have Dr. W. W. B., Gordon B. as I mentioned. I have a tape of his recorded on four track which I didn't even listen to yet but it is kind of old so I believe a lot new stuff has been added. Now you've probably heard of these people, Rosal D., Bernie, Peg B., and then we have a guy by the name of Dave B. from Canada. He talked at an Akron breakfast. This FM radio is not good. I should have put some music but I was too damn lazy.

[00:10:12]

I have a very good one of the Twelve Traditions by a fellow that's deceased from the Chicago area by the name of Charlie C. and I have a few by Dr. Al C., Chuck C. Quite a few by him. This Warren C. This is just plain Lynn C. He makes a very good talk whenever he talks. I have one of Glenn C. before this one here of the conference. I'm just looking through these here to give you an idea of what I have. A lot of these are local speakers. George C. D., [surname omitted]. He's from up around Oregon. He's on some kind of alcoholic committee.

Then I have a few Al-Anon talks, Alateen talks, Bob F. a few times, Judge Lou F. There's that Eddie F. I was telling you about on the other side there. I have four one hour sessions of Billy Graham. I don't know if you're one of his fans or not but I recorded him when he had that doing here in Chicago and do quite a crowd from that. He's considered very good and I don't think that you ever run into having one of their talks there. I don't know whether I'll get a chance to finish this tape up today because it is getting late.

I've got to eat yet. It's about quarter to three and I've got to leave for work so I don't like to rush things too much. You mentioned you have Governor H. I was just wondering how you got the tape of Governor H. when he talked here in Chicago. I got the copy of it and I don't think anybody else recorded it unless I gave that person the copy so let me know. Maybe you got him through somebody I know.

This is Charles J. I've got the copy but it's not too clear. Yours is a lot clearer. I've got President Kennedy's messages taken from a record. I occasionally record other things besides AA. Gil L. talked here at our conference. He made a very good talk. We've got a fellow by the name of Mike L. Charles L. from Washington D.C. makes a very good talk there. A lot of these people I don't even know if they're still living because they were given to me by someone who exchanged tapes with someone else.

I've got Eve M. from the General Service Office. In fact I've got quite a few gals who work in the General Service Office there. Marty M. She doesn't work there but I have her. I have a fellow by the name of Paul M. Dr. John M., Major S. of Dublin, Ireland. Bill of Dublin, Ireland. He was here visiting us a few years back and I recorded him. He

[00:15:09]

was one of the first people in Ireland to start a group in Ireland there. I got a doctor, Bill M. I think he's out from your way. Some of these people, I have two and three talks of these here people. And each one of their talks are a little different. I have to keep watching this tape here because it is running out. Oh, Juanita N., I've got her. She's from the General Service Office. And Walter O. a few times. Jack O.

John P., he's a very good local speaker here. Tom P. from New York. Glenn P. And these Father [name unclear] recordings, I've got all thirty of his recordings there. He does repeat himself quite a bit in these recordings. I was just wondering what sort of recordings you have of him and how did you get to record him because he's a person that will not let anybody record him. He would rather make it on records there. In fact, I told him when I was up to his retreat that I got all his records on recordings. He said I shouldn't play them in public because the RCA people will sue me or something. I told him I have my own collection there. In fact, that's the way I got started in this taping business here. I've heard some of his recordings, decided to get a recorder, and little did I dream that I'd have a collection of about 700 recordings. We've got Dave R. from Marysville, Tennessee.

Mary R., Gertrude R., Austin R., Ken R., Rick R., and Reverend Tom S. He's a non-alcoholic, but he made a nice talk in Keeley Roundup. Phyllis S., Gene S., Father Sam S., Clarence S., Vern S., Mary S., Dale S., Mary S., Jack S. from Kansas City, Father Al S., and these Dr. Bobs here. That's what I'm going to put on for you. I would like to have a good talk of Abby T. That's Bill W.'s sponsor, if you have it. I have one talk where he talks about 15 minutes only. I have one small recording that I got from someone who just got, within the last six months ago, of his voice just before he passed away. I was thinking if you'd want that, I can put that on for you, on this tape.

I might put it on yet. There's Joe T. He makes a very nice talk there. I've got the St. Thomas Hospital group. I attended a meeting there in June of 1964 and was recorded by a portable tape recorder by my friend Wallace L. It came out pretty good. One other thing we recorded is the AA play that they hold every year in Akron. It was very good, but the thing is that you would more or less have to see it to enjoy it more.

I have this Reverend Johnny V. I believe you should have him. I think he made the best talk about all these conferences that we had in Chicago. Him and a lawyer by the name of

[00:20:05]

Ed B. I believe they talked in the second Chicago Intergroup Conference. I have Tom V. He talked at our first conference, although I have a better talk of him when he talked at one of our banquets here later on. John C. W. I have a couple of him. He's a very good speaker from down Ohio way. John W. and Ben W. from California. Keith W. That's the fellow that was replaced by John A. when I first started talking about these people here. Bill W. I have a few times. Reverend Dutch W.

Bob W. Lois W. Helen W. Helen W. Richard W. That's this Dick W. He makes very good talk there. Shy W. I have a few of his, but not as clear as the one you had sent me. In fact, I listened to part of it and didn't hear all of it yet. Well, that's about all I have. I have quite a few yet that are not listed here. A talk of a guy by the name of Yev G. who talked in Kenosha last month. He was one of the first few that started in New York.

Lynn C. also talked the next day in the Racine AA Center, which is a very good talk he made there. I'm going to back off a little bit on making these recordings because I've got so many that I would like to get it straightened out and listen to some of these I have. But if you do want to make me another tape, make me one up of these Toronto tapes that I do not have checked. I sure hope that you don't have no trouble in playing this over. I don't think you will. But in case you do, I'll write a note in here to have you send this back and I'll re-record this for you on 3 ¾. Although, if I do have to record this on 3 ¾, I will need another 2400 foot tape like this. So if you do send this back, enclose another 2400 footer so it will cover all of these recordings that I have on here.

I can't seem to think of anything else. I'm just about all talked out. I'm tired of being with this recorder. I recorded all these this last track and a half and I I don't think I'll be able to get this in today. I'll finish it up tomorrow and have it in the mail for you tomorrow for sure. So goodbye till then and I may say a little something on the next and last track. I don't know for sure, but if I do, I'll mark it on this sheet here and be able to look forward to hearing it. So goodbye for now and easy does it.

Easy does it and I'll put this Dr. Bob on the other side on 1 7 8 and maybe add a little something else that I think you might like. Bye now. Excuse me for yawning. I don't know why. Whenever I do this, it seems to make me kind of tired. So bye for now and I'll see you around

[00:25:10]

and hope to be hearing from you real soon in the near future. But take your time. I know you've waited a long time for this and whenever you do get time, just start it off and I know that once you get started, you'll want to get it done. But to do it all in one day, especially during the week, it's pretty hard thing to do. If I started on a Saturday, I probably could complete it or Sunday or a holiday or something like that. But I'm sure that you will like this conference and [name unclear] will enjoy hearing what she hadn't heard when she was visiting us here also. So hope to hear from you and bye now.
