============================================================

Hello, Charlie. This is Franklin W. at Olive Branch, Mississippi. I want you to know how much I appreciate and how much I enjoyed the tape that you sent me. I've just finished listening to it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was awfully glad to get the talk by Marion H., because no one here, to my knowledge, has a talk of Marion, and there's so many of us that thought so much of Marion. Marion made the first call on me over twelve years ago, and he was my sponsor, and we became very, very close friends throughout the years, and his passing was a great loss to me.

Charlie, I very much like to fool with tapes. I'm very fortunate to have been in the last few years in that I've been able to go to quite a few conferences. This year I think I've made nine on a statewide level or better. For a number of years I would take a recorder that belonged to somebody else and would tape talks, but just in the last year and a half or so have I started keeping them for myself.

I have somewhere around six hundred talks, and I have some awfully good ones. And in going to these conventions and conferences I've made so many friends. You fellows that have been taping for a long time have been very generous with me, and you've exchanged tapes, thereby enabling me to get quite a good library. So I have your list, Charlie, but I don't know what else you have other than on that. I don't think in talking to you that I've ever heard you mention a few of these speakers that have talked on this side of the river, Goodyear, and to my knowledge they haven't been over there, and you possibly don't have them.

I think they are real good. Now the ones that you mentioned in your tape and asking that if I would like to have, I have just about all of them. I do not have Ken B., and I would like to have him. I believe you said John P. was one. I do not have him and would like to have him. And another one you mentioned was Dorothy. I thought you said her last name was H.. I don't have her, and I'd be glad to have her.

And I'm going to send you a list of some of the speakers that I have. And it's possible that you don't have them all, and if you want them I'd be glad to copy them for you, because from now until conventions start again I'll have a good deal of free time. And I, like you, enjoy fooling with these things, and it's a pleasure for me to sit down and copy tapes and send them to someone. Because I'll get to listen to it again, and then I just enjoy swapping these tapes and trying to accumulate all the good library of A.A. talks that I use at my own club.

I furnish the harbor house with a good many tapes, and I have two programs out to the penal farm, and I use them out there. And these boys thoroughly enjoy some of these tapes. You know the type that appeals to them. On this side of the tape, Charlie, I put on some that I like, Elliot Cleforth, that you probably don't have. He's program director of Voice of America, and this talk was given at the International Doctors' Convention in 1963, and Dr. Don B. from up in Indianapolis introduced him.

Ellick talked at Blackstone a few years ago, to give you some idea of what he's thought of as a speaker. Now this Bill O., I don't think you have him. He's quite an outstanding convention speaker. In fact, he's going to be in North Carolina, in Durham I believe it is, in January at their new conference they're starting over there, calling it the Tar Heel Conference or something. But anyway, Bill is on that program.

And the last talk on this side is a gal that I know her brother real well. We've been very close friends for a number of years. A boy with Tuscaloosa, Alabama named N.T. O.. And his sister married B., the card expert, the man that's internationally known as a bridge expert. And she's quite a personable gal. I've had the pleasure of being with her and talking with her, and of course there's something personal there that makes me enjoy this talk a little bit more.

Now I have quite a few others that I'm going to try to get on about two tapes and send you.

[00:05:03]

One of them I never have seen on your list, old Pelham G. from Fort Payne, Alabama. Pelham died a couple of years ago. He died in May or June of 1965. He's very popular throughout this area. And then Bill C., I don't think I've heard you mention him. Old Dave R. had him up at his party in May, and I was fortunate enough to go up there and hear Bill and to tape him there. But this talk is at another place.

I think it's even a little better talk than he made it at Maryville. Then I have Howard L. here that talked at Memphis here recently. Howard is a TV personality, a TV announcer from Cleveland, Ohio. There's another one from up at Cleveland that I'd like to also send you. You may have him. I doubt it. I heard him at the Southeastern a year ago, and then I heard him over at Huntsville, Alabama here a few months ago.

And then he talked a year ago, I believe it was, or maybe this spring at the Kentucky conference up in, I forget whether it was Louisville or Lexington. And then Bill H. talked down at the Southeastern this year. Bill is connected with this Hazleton Foundation, and Bill made an awfully good talk, I think. And Barry L. talked there, and he also talked over at this North Carolina convention in January of 1968.

Barry has something to do with grapevine and with General Service, and I think he got out this little pamphlet, new pamphlet, that General Service put out, What's Wrong with Joe or something like that. I forget the name of it. Then I have a nigger that you may not have from Detroit. This nigger, Charlie D., and he was a keynote speaker at some convention a year or two ago, and he's like the old gal that you have, Hallie.

In fact, he refers to Hallie in his talk. He's very good, and he's got some good sound AA there. Well, Charlie, it looks like this side of the tape is about to run out, so I'll turn the thing over and get you something on the other side and try to finish the other side tonight, and then maybe tomorrow night I can finish another tape and get both of them rolling to you. In the meantime, I'll write you and tell you some of the things that I'd like to have that you have.

I know you have a lot of talks that are not on your list because I've made some conventions with you, and those names are not on there. But so long for right now, Charlie, and let me flip this thing over and get started on the other side.
