Good morning, everybody. My name is Sandy Beach, and I'm an alcoholic. How are you all doing? It's a pleasure to be here this morning, and I want to thank the committee for inviting me over. And my sobriety date is December 7th, 1964, and my home group is the universe-famous Saturday Night Fever Group here in Tampa, Florida. And we invite you to come every Saturday at 7 o'clock, and then go right on over to the world-famous Monday night meeting in St. Pete. Anyway, I was supposed to speak on Monday, and I had a Monday morning talk ready. And Monday morning talks are just jokes. You know what I mean? Funny stories and drinking stories and all of that. And the Sunday morning talk is, God as I understand him. So you can see there's a big difference between the two talks. And I had all the notes for the Monday talk ready, and I can't use those, so I'm going to have to make up a bunch of stuff about the Sunday morning things. If I were to talk about God as I understand him, I would have to start out by talking about God as I misunderstood him. And I think all of us had that. You know, when they talk about old ideas availed us nothing, a lot of them had to do with a higher power. And we had all kinds of these bizarre ideas. And I was brought up in the Catholic Church, and I remember studying the little catechism. And one of the questions was, where is God? And I remember going, well, that's a good question, because I've never seen him anywhere. And the answer was, everywhere. Now when you're about seven, that's not a helpful answer. You know, because I'm going everywhere. So I'm looking in the closet, and I'm looking in the backyard, and I'm looking all around, and it seemed like, what a bizarre answer. You know, and it was not very helpful. Now my sister and I, my sister now has 26 years in AA, and he and I attended the same church. And what he saw was the most wonderful, loving, happy, comforting place in the world. And what I saw was the most scary, intimidating, frightening place I've ever been in. I would be on the edge of a nervous breakdown every Sunday morning…
