My name is John and I'm an alcoholic. I invite you to listen to an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous at the St. Leo's group in Fairfax, Virginia. I thank you and I hope you enjoy this tape. Good evening everyone. I'd like to welcome everybody here this evening. My name is Woody and I'm an alcoholic. And this is St. Leo's group of Alcoholics Anonymous and this is an open meeting. I'd like to begin the meeting this evening with a few moments of silent prayer followed by the serenity prayer. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other. They may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership. We are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization, or institution. Does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. This is a special meeting this evening and before we get on with the festivities we're going to have first things first, which is the secretary's report. I have one more little thing to do and we'll get on with it. We have the poker chip system here at St. Leo's. Tonight it's going to be such a pleasure to take the bus and leave the driving to Earl. Earl, come on up. On behalf of the St. Leo's group and how do you say it? Anyway, we present you with this golden medallion on your 11th anniversary. Congratulations, my good friend. Thank you, Woody, and good evening, good folks. My name's Earl Chess and I'm an alcoholic. I'm very, very grateful this evening and I'd like to also acknowledge the fact that I have a lot of sponsors here this evening and I was told to keep it short. And also I'd like for you good folks who have not met my lovely wife, he's here with me this evening, Barbara, and also his mother. So would you please stand, Barbara…
